Horror Movie Recommendations for Halloween 2017

Horror Movie Recommendations
It’s that time of year again when we can’t seem to go anywhere without hearing about the scariest movie of the year. And, if you ask us, there is no better time than the fourth Thursday in October (aka Halloween) to watch a good ol’ horror flick. So, whether you’re getting into the spooky spirit or already an aficionado, here are some great recommendations for your next cozy viewing session this Halloween.
A Quiet Place

While most people are interested in watching jump-scary flicks in October, we can’t help but look forward to May when the next flick in this series is released. From the makers of “The Blair Witch Project“, “A Quiet Place“ captures the horrors of silence in a way only the found-footage genre can accomplish. In a world where creatures lurk in the darkness, the Abbott family must avoid detection by hiding from creatures that hunt by sound. The results are both terrifying and extremely moving, and we can’t wait to see this one again. A Quiet Place is out on April 6. (Horror Movie Recommendations)
The Exorcist

One of the scariest movies of all time, “The Exorcist” is a classic that still holds up today. Starring the legendary Ellen Burstyn and directed by William Friedkin, this chilling film follows the complex story of a mother and daughter who are dealing with the consequences of a tragic exorcism. The story is told through the eyes of the daughter, who becomes dangerously attached to the mysterious man who takes up residence in their home. The Exorcist is out on DVD and Blu-ray.
Get Out

“Get Out” is by far one of the most talked-about movies of the year. The film follows a young man named Chris as he visits his girlfriend’s family in the deep south. As Chris gets to know the family, he discovers that something isn’t quite right with his girlfriend’s family. As he tries to get out of the house, Chris comes face to face with the sinister secrets of the family – secrets that could tear the whole family apart. Get Out is out on DVD and Blu-ray.
The Shining

Movies are made for many reasons, but few are made for the sole purpose of terrifying an entire nation. “The Shining” was one of the first horror flicks to hit an entire country’s collective psyche, and still remains one of the most potent depictions of horror ever committed to film. Directed by Stanley Kubrick and written by novelist Stephen King, “The Shining” follows a family who takes up a job at a remote and haunted hotel. As the father (Jack Nicholson) begins to go mad with anger and paranoia, and the son (Danny) becomes complacent, the path toward destruction leads directly to the family. The Shining is out on DVD and Blu-ray.
The Conjuring

Just like “Get Out” and “A Quiet Place” before it, “The Conjuring” is another great example of a horror movie that has found a new audience after years of being overlooked. Directed by the wonderful James Wan, “The Conjuring” follows a family who takes on a case of demonic mischievousness. The Conjuring is one of the best examples of how to use the found-footage technique and has earned a huge cult following since it was first released. The Conjuring is out on DVD and Blu-ray.
Don’t Breathe

Another great example of a horror movie that has found a new audience is “Don’t Breathe“. The film follows a trio of young friends who are forced to rob an elderly blind man but run into trouble when one of them has the idea to silence them by throwing a grenade in the closet. The film has earned a huge cult following and is one of the best examples of a throwback to the slasher flick. Don’t Breathe is out on DVD and Blu-ray.
Alien: Covenant

The Alien franchise has never been shy about pushing the boundaries of horror, and “Covenant” is one of the best examples yet. Continuing the story of the crew of the ill-fated “Prometheus”, the crew finds themselves on a mission to discover what happened to the Engineers. However, when they discover that the Engineers are a race of aliens who are much more advanced than they are, the crew is forced to fight for their survival. Alien: Covenant is out on DVD and Blu-ray. (Horror Movie Recommendations)
The Babadook

The Australian horror film “The Babadook” has been gaining popularity ever since it was first released. The film follows a single mother who is grieving the loss of her son and uses a book titled “The Babadook” to try to get her son back. The book turns out to be a sinister entity that causes much grief for the mother and son. The Babadook is out on DVD and Blu-ray.
Hush

And finally, if you’re looking for a great psychological horror flick, “Hush” is a great choice. The film follows a woman named Celeste, who is trying to work through her grief after the death of her husband. In order to help herself, Celeste begins to speak to the man in the room who is trying to keep quiet. The film is an excellent examination of the chaos that can ensue when people try to help themselves through self-help. (Horror Movie Recommendations)
Hush is out on DVD and Blu-ray. These are just a few of the great horror movies that you can find this Halloween. It is important to note that Halloween has become a time when horror movies are released, but they are not the only great movies to watch during this time of the year. So, don’t miss out on any of the great movies that are currently released!
